TASMANIAN EXPERIENCES

Quirky Wildlife Photography

Short distances on great roads with little traffic (I live in Sydney!) allowed me the time, space and rare pleasure of being able to indulge my photographer’s eye (alas with just an i-phone) from a fun perspective. Just pick a theme. It was soon clear there was plenty of Tasmanian wildlife willing to pose.

These “stars” were discovered at the Cascade Brewery, Salamanca Market, on the roads to Bruny Island and Tamar Valley … also goes to show the great sense of...

Hobart’s georgian-era buildings, the city’s water-side bars, galleries and cafes, and its marinas all sit at the foothills of majestic Mount Wellington. The mountain is a reminder that not all the region’s attractions are found in the city.

Walk in the footsteps of infamous convicts on the Tasman Peninsula, home to the World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site. Explore the south's spectacular waterways by kayak or take a wilderness cruise to Bruny Island followed by a gourmet meal of the freshest local produce.

Immerse yourself in the art studios and galleries of Salamanca Place or the laid-back heritage charm of nearby Richmond. The city surrounds brim with vineyards and there are high-end fishing lodges close to well-stocked highland lakes and national parks are within easy driving distance.

In Hobart and surrounds you'll find the perfect mix of culture and adventure; not to mention the Museum of Old and New Art, Australia's largest private art collection.
