Lumina’s festive mix provides for all tastes, ranging from arts and cultural events through to food and wine galas and top level sporting action.
The epicurean festival, Savour Tasmania, blends the talents of international chefs with the island’s best produce. Its growing reputation has again lured some of the world’s greatest chefs including Spain’s Paco Roncero and Australian icons Maggie Beer and Simon Bryant.
There will be no shortage of music during Lumina. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s winter concert series will move you and the midwinter gathering of more than 35 choirs at the Festival of Voices is sure to bring warmth to the air.
Junction Arts Festival will showcase top regional artists across a broad range of forms including dance, theatre, opera and visual arts. With 47 listed events, the Launceston festival focuses on work that is collaborative and participatory, with plenty of opportunities to get involved.
If a night of world-class theatre takes your fancy, settle in for an evening of Shakespeare at the inaugural Australian Shakespeare Festival. This major new multi-arts festival will offer 10,000 seats to plays, opera, revue, film, music and a diverse educational program. Lumina is also excited to present Festival of Broadway, a week of performances hosted by internationally acclaimed composer of ‘Wicked’ Stephen Schwartz.
If it’s live sporting action that excites you, there is no better time to be in Tasmania than during Lumina. You can see some of the world’s best drivers behind the wheel of the world’s best touring, sports and GT cars take to Tasmania’s mountain passes and coastal roads during Targa Tasmania. Or watch thrilling AFL action at Aurora Stadium.
